The Colombia Program is part of the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at the Edmund A. Walsh School for Foreign Service at Georgetown University. The Program is country oriented, but has strong thematic interests that are explored from a comparative point of view. These thematic areas are: Local Governance, Intermediate Level of Government, Security Sector Reform, Representative and Participatory Democracy, Local Economic Development, Afro Colombian Issues, and Comparative Analysis. The main project of the Colombia Program has been to work the USAID/ADAM Program (Areas for Municipal-level Alternative Development), work that culminated in December 2007. The ADAM program, in conjunction with Acción Social (Agencia Presidencial para la Acción Social y la Cooperación) and DNP (National Planning Department) is working in 100 municipios spread throughout the country. The components on which Georgetown University provides technical assistance are strengthening of city councils and CCSC (culture, coexistence and citizen security). Through both of these areas, the Colombia Program's work has contributed to the overall vision of the USAID/ADAM program to create a more peaceful country through focused alternative development programs. To implement the activities under the ADAM program. The Colombia Program has actively worked in Colombia through its office at Javeriana University, located in the capital city of Bogotá.
