K-12 Educators
In 2006, the Center for Latin American Studies was designated a Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) for Latin America by the U.S. Department of Education. This important federal grant program enables excellent university departments of Latin American Studies to invest in outreach efforts aimed at local communities of K-12 educators.
The CLAS National Resource Center for Latin America is committed to improving access to resources and information that will allow K-12 educators in the Washington, D.C. area to incorporate and enhance the teaching of Latin America in the classroom. Through the expansion of resources offerings and outreach activities, the CLAS NRC aims to promote interest in the region while breaking stereotypes about Latin America. The Center is dedicated to developing a comprehensive program by expanding a network of institutions and scholars who are interested in providing educators, students, and the community at large with accurate facts about Latin America, its culture, history, and people.
