ACCELERATED BSFS/M.A. PROGRAM

The accelerated BSFS/MA is a program offering exceptional undergraduate students in the School of Foreign Service the opportunity to complete the requirements for both the Master of Arts in Latin American Studies and the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service within a five-year period. BSFS students apply for the accelerated program during their junior year, during the normal M.A. in Latin American Studies application cycle, hitting either the January 15 or the May 1 application deadline. Only students achieving a 3.5 GPA by the end of their sophomore year in the BSFS program may apply to proceed to the M.A. During their senior year (the fourth year at Georgetown), students retain their undergraduate academic status for purposes of tuition, the housing lottery, and financial aid. During their fifth year at Georgetown enrollment is changed to graduate status, students are charged graduate tuition and administrative supervision is transferred to the CLAS office. In order to earn both degrees, students must fulfill all the degree requirements for both the BSFS and CLAS M.A. A limited number of qualifying courses taken during the fourth and fifth years at Georgetown may double count as both graduate courses and BSFS divisional courses and free electives. For additional information on this program, please contact Amb. Andrew Steigman, Associate Dean, School of Foreign Service, at steigman@georgetown.edu.
