National Resource Center

What are the Title VI National Resource Centers (NRCs)?

  • Began in 1965 as part of the Higher Education Act
  • Included in this act were National Resource Centers, Language Resource Centers and Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS)
  • Well over 100 NRC, LRC and FLAS throughout the country.
  • Engaged in promoting their area of study.
  • Absolute Priority: To engage in teacher-training activities.

When did the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at Georgetown University become a Title VI National Resource Center?

The Title VI NRC is a grant provided by the Federal Education Secretary to promote area studies in the US.

The Center for Latin American Studies received this grant in July, 2006.
