Registration Instructions & Notes
-
Course offerings are subject to change. Refer to the Schedule of Classes on the Internet at http://registrar.georgetown.edu for more information, including the most current course offerings, pre-requisite and permission information, available seating, and classrooms. Registration instructions are available online. Please also see instructions for using the electronic waitlist system.
All CLAS MA students must obtain the signature of their faculty advisor on their advising forms. If you have not yet chosen an advisor in your discipline, now is the time to ask a faculty member to serve as your advisor. Tim Wickham-Crowley and Angelo Rivero-Santos are available to meet with all first-year students who have not yet selected a faculty advisor in their discipline. IBD students must consult with the IBD office for course approval.
First-year CLAS MA students are strongly encouraged to take both core classes and one or two additional courses.
Be careful to note whether permission of the instructor or department is required for registration. Failure to obtain needed signatures will impede registration. Print the permission form from Student Access+, obtain the instructor's signature, and bring the form to the Registrar's office.
Be creative in thinking about course options to fulfill your concentration and elective courses. Look especially in the INAF (International Affairs) section and in the section for your disciplinary concentration (ECON, GOVT, HIST, SPAN, etc.). Although courses numbered 350 and higher count for graduate credit, you are strongly encouraged to take courses numbered 450 and above; courses numbered below 350 can be taken for graduate credit with special arrangements for extra work. To utilize a course not included on this list, make sure that GSFS students are permitted to take the class and obtain permission from your faculty advisor to count the course toward your concentration. See Profs. Wickham-Crowley or Rivero-Santos if you have any doubts.
Take advantage of courses offered through the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. The Registrar's Office has the Schedule of Classes from each member of the Consortium, and the registration process is quite easy. Contact the appropriate department at the college/university you wish to attend to assure a seat when classes begin and complete the three-part Consortium form from the Georgetown Registrar's Office. Note that consortium course credits are not calculated into your Georgetown GPA and that consortium faculty have no input in CLAS comprehensive exams.
Discuss specific course options with your faculty advisor to determine whether the course content will meet the needs of your particular concentration.
- Note also that R refers to Thursday in Georgetown's course scheduling information.
