Visiting Scholars and Researchers

As part of its research program, the Center for Latin American Studies welcomes visiting scholars undertaking research activities on the Center's themes. Research topics have included everything from literature to economic development in Latin America and the focus of these scholars ranges from the Southern Cone to the Caribbean. In recent years we have benefited from the presence of many distinguished scholars from around the globe. On average, the Center hosts five visiting researchers each year. In the 1996-97 academic year, as part of its agreement with FLACSO-Mexico, the Center hosted eight Ph.D. students from various Latin American countries who performed research on advanced topics in comparative politics and international relations of Latin America.

The Center for Latin American Studies welcomes those interested to apply to be a Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University. Applicants should submit via e-mail a 1-3 page proposal of their research project along with a resume/CV to clas@georgetown.edu. The Center takes 4-6 weeks to review applications. Visiting professors and scholars have access to the faculty, the library and the many other resources that Georgetown University has to offer, in addition to the countless resources available in the Washington, D.C. area. The Center, due to limited funds, cannot provide financial assistance to visiting scholars, however there are many external fellowships available and those interested are encouraged to search the Graduate School fellowship page to explore possible fellowship and research grant opportunities.
