SFS Global Experiences Initiative in Peru

Learn about Peruvian Politics and History with Fr. Matthew Carnes

Embark on a week-long journey through the history, culture, and politics of Peru with the Center for Latin American Studies!

This spring break Global Experience will provide undergraduate students with firsthand knowledge of contemporary Peruvian politics, economics, and culture, as well as of Jesuit missions in Peru and the opportunity to connect with Peruvian students and educators.

Partnering with the Jesuit Universidad Antonio Ruiz de Montoya, we will visit sites showcasing Jesuit work throughout the country and capital city. We will begin in Lima, where students will partake in home-stays, and we will visit Jesuit schools for campus tours and lectures on the emerging economy as well as sustainable community development and government partnerships. Next, we'll travel to Cuzco and spend a night in Andahuaylillas visiting a Fe y Alegría school. After a few days getting acclimated and learning more about Jesuit tradition and education in Cuzco, we'll get the chance to hike Machu Picchu before returning to Lima and flying home!

Please note that international travel arrangements will be arranged by CLAS and all participants will be departing/arriving as a group from the same airports.

Application deadline: Friday, December 8 at 11:59pm

Program Cost: Approx. $3250

Interviews will be held the weeks of Dec. 4-11 and students will be notified of a final decision within a week of the interview.
