Hometown: Brisbane, CA
Bio: Laura was born in San Francisco, CA and grew up in a little town right outside of it. She attended Soka University of America for her undergraduate degree in International Studies with a focus on Latin America. During her undergraduate career Laura had the opportunity to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina for two weeks to learn about the Dirty War and children’s rights. She also studied abroad in Alcala de Henares, Spain for a semester. After graduating, Laura honed her people, time management, and organization skills while working as the Stage Manager at the Soka Performing Arts Center for a year. She then decided she wanted to live, travel, and work in Latin America so she moved to Cusco, Peru to work as an English teacher for a year until starting her Masters at Georgetown in 2017. She has since interned at the Inter-American Dialogue in Washington D.C. and spent three months in Bogota, Colombia taking a course regarding the peace negotiations in La Habana and interning at el Centro de Investigacion y Educacion Popular (CINEP). Laura hopes to work at a local or international organization that specializes in human rights protection in Latin America.
