Livia Milani
Livia Milani is a PhD candidate in International Relations at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and holds a MA and BA in International Relations from São Paulo State University (UNESP) where she is also a lecturer. Livia’s research aims to analyze the U.S. foreign policy in South America, with specific focus on Brazil and Argentina.
Her research centers on the first fifteen years of the 21st century and on themes of international security. LIvia’s hypothesis is that the ‘global war on terror’ did not mean U.S. Negligence towards South America. Even though the MIddle East was the priority, the diplomatic and military bureaucracy kept working to maintain U.S. hegemony in the hemisphere. The reformation of the Inter-American Defense system, with a greater emphasis on transnational threats, also mattered as a way of promoting U.S. security views to Latin American Countries.
