Parties and Other Organized Social Actors in Latin America: Challenges to Representation

On March 15, 2024, CLAS hosted Juan Bogliaccini and Rafael Piñeiro of the Departamento de Ciencias Sociales, Universidad Católica del Uruguay for a discussion of the role of organized social actors and political parties in Latin America and challenges to representation. During the event, Bogliaccini discussed his forthcoming book, Empowering Labor: Leftist Pre-Distributive Strategies in Unequal Democracies and Piñeiro introduced a new paper that explores how powerless constituencies can exert agency and transform a political party’s policy agenda.
