Bio: Gus Callejas is a first-year candidate for the Master of Arts in Latin American Studies at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. Gus, a first-generation American from a Mexican immigrant family, graduated from Kenyon College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Spanish Language & Literature, with a minor in History and a concentration in Latine Studies. During his undergraduate studies, he completed an internship at the non-profit Article Group Org, where he assisted with research on Mexican Indigenous grassroots governance practices. He also interned abroad in Santiago, Chile, at the Museum of Memory and Human Rights as an archivist, recording Chilean migrants’ written testimonies and descriptions of their efforts to seek refuge in Mexico during the authoritarian regime of Augusto Pinochet. Gus is excited to delve into politics and literature, hoping to read more by Roberto Bolaño and become more versed in the region to better inform policy, raise advocacy awareness, and strengthen relations in the Western Hemisphere.
