On Thursday, February 20th, 2025, the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) welcomed H.E. Milena Mayorga, El Salvador’s Ambassador to the U.S., as part of its Ambassador Series. The Series is designed to provide the CLAS and the Georgetown University community an opportunity to meet and talk with the region’s Ambassadors about contemporary issues impacting their country and the hemisphere.
Moderator and CLAS Director of Academic Affairs Professor Angelo Rivero Santos asked questions about “economic diplomacy,” the cornerstone of Salvadoran foreign policy, security and crime, and El Salvador’s role in regional and transregional relationships. Ambassador Mayorga addressed these complex themes confidently, citing examples of Salvadoran President Bukele’s leadership and of the impact of her work. The conversation ended with the Ambassador’s invaluable insights and advice to Georgetown University’s future diplomats and policymakers.
