Research: I am currently conducting research that examines both the international and grassroots drivers of democratic backsliding across Latin America, working under professors Diana Kapiszewski and Michael Shifter, and Assistant Research Professor Alice Taylor. The project is divided into two streams: the first examines the influence of external actors such as China, Russia, and Iran, as well as the diffusion of authoritarian models through leaders like Nayib Bukele, Nicolás Maduro, and Javier Milei; the second focuses on the role of civil, social, and youth movements in sustaining democratic reform amid these broader trends of backsliding.
