Thalía Pasetto Bilessimo
Class of 2026
Hometown: Criciúma, Brazil
Bio: Since 2021, I have held a law degree from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Including both internships and formal employment, I have accumulated over seven years of experience in roles related to international immigration. My work has included both academic research at the university and practical experience in public and private institutions, such as the Public Defender’s Office and a local NGO called Círculos de Hospitalidade. Over time, my activities have evolved, but they have consistently focused on ensuring that international migrants arriving in Santa Catarina have access to proper documentation, their legal rights, and formal employment opportunities. Since beginning my master’s degree at Georgetown, I have been working as a Research Assistant at SIGLA, a multilingual database that provides reliable information about institutions in Latin America. SIGLA aims to democratize access to governance data across the region. My main fields of interest include understanding Latin America's historical trajectory, the role of migration in its development, and how both quantitative and qualitative data can inform the implementation of effective social policies.
