On March 27, 2024, Ph.D. candidate Simon Ballesteros from the Department of Government shared his current research that makes up a chapter of his dissertation about political elites and democratic constitutional change in Chile after a social uprising. During the discussion, Simon spoke of the relationship he is investigating, using both qualitative and quantitative methods, between moments of social protest, and how democratic subsequent constitution-making processes are, specifically using his case study of the social protests in Chile in 2019 and the subsequent constitutional process. Attendees engaged with Simon about his hypotheses, his methodology, some of his preliminary findings, and directions for further investigation.
