Bio: Nelcy is a second year Candidate for an M.A. in Latin American Studies at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She recently graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Secondary Education and International Relations. While at Salisbury, Nelcy completed a teaching internship at Salisbury Middle School and Parkside High School with Wicomico County, teaching Spanish I, III, and AP. During her Teacher Internship, she created lesson plans that provided students a non-traditional approach to acquiring Spanish. Her pedagogy included interpersonal and presentational tasks to allow students to communicate with Latinx communities while having a strong historical context of multiple countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Within her first year at Georgetown University, she completed an internship with the Organization of American States with the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy. She is currently interning with INSeries, a non-profit theatre company dedicated to the Hispanic/Latinx community in the D.C. and Baltimore area. She is part of the judging panel for the 2020 Gabriela Mistral's Children's Poetry Competition. Her interests include studying Latin American literature, films, poetry, performance arts, and analyzing oral histories to better understand Latinidad in the Americas.
