Bio: Rebecca Kanter is a Masters Candidate at the Center for Latin American Studies at the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service. Born in Manhattan, NYC, Rebecca graduated cum laude from George Washington University in 2022 with a degree in Latin American Studies and Anthropology. While at GW, she studied abroad in Pernambuco, Brazil, where for the first time she experienced a regional studies course that discussed the politics, culture, and economy of Latin America from within the region itself.
Upon graduation, Rebecca spent 1.5 years working for the international non-profit Partners of the Americas as a Business Development Officer. In this role, she was introduced to field of international development and gained familiarity with federal grant institutions such as USAID, DOS, USDA, and DOL. Although this experience reaffirmed Rebecca's love and interest in Latin America, it also made her realize that development work was not her calling. Her desire for a more policy-oriented education brought her to Georgetown.
Rebecca is excited to launch a career in diplomacy. She hopes to work for the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer. She is driven by her desire to pursue a career bridging cultural divides while representing American values in a way that promotes cooperation and shared interests.
